Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) is an approach to development that ensures habitats for wildlife are left in a measurably better condition than they were before development.
For most developments in England that are subject to mandatory BNG, developers are required to deliver at least a 10% increase in biodiversity value compared with the site's pre-development baseline.
Where possible, biodiversity gains can be created within the development itself through new or enhanced habitats. Where the full requirement cannot be achieved on-site, developers can use off-site biodiversity units created through habitat enhancement on other land.
These off-site projects create an opportunity for landowners to restore and enhance habitats while providing developers with the biodiversity units they need to meet their planning requirements.
BNG therefore brings landowners, developers and nature together — helping new development take place while creating and protecting better habitats for the future.
Unlock the potential of your land
Form & Acre works with landowners to identify opportunities to enhance biodiversity while creating long-term value from suitable land through Biodiversity Net Gain.
We help guide you through the entire process, beginning with an initial assessment of your land and its potential. Where a site looks suitable, we coordinate the ecological surveys, biodiversity calculations and habitat design needed to understand what could be achieved and how the land could be enhanced.
From there, we help establish the project, arrange the necessary registration and long-term agreements, and connect the resulting biodiversity units with developers who need them.
Our focus is on creating practical, well-managed habitats that deliver genuine improvements for nature while providing landowners with a new long-term opportunity from their land.

Secure the BNG units your development needs
Form & Acre works with developers who need off-site Biodiversity Net Gain units to meet the biodiversity requirements of their development.
Where the required biodiversity gain cannot be delivered entirely on-site, we help identify and secure suitable off-site units, working with landowners and ecological professionals to create high-quality habitat projects that can support development elsewhere.
We aim to make the process as straightforward as possible, helping you understand your off-site requirement, identify appropriate units and coordinate the necessary allocation and documentation for your development.
Whether you are planning a small residential scheme or a larger development, our aim is to provide a clear and reliable route to off-site BNG, helping satisfy planning requirements and keep your project moving.
